Hayloft Point is located on the site of a former 16th Century Shakespearean-era playhouse. It features 920 purpose-built homes for much needed student accommodation in the heart of the UK’s capital. It is an L-shaped building with a mix of 24-storey, 16-storey and 8-storey elements. The 29,000 square foot development completed in Sept 2022. The installation of the ETICS with a clay brick slip system took around 60 weeks.
Unite Students is committed to the sustainability agenda, designing, constructing and managing buildings to be sustainable, support nature and to provide a healthy, inspiring environment for those who live and work there. As part of its sustainability strategy, it is committed to becoming net zero carbon across its operations and developments by 2030. Hayloft Point has been designed to BREEAM Excellent Rating. The Gold Standard of Secure by Design accreditation was achieved in the construction of Hayloft Point.
The design required the use of various thicknesses of mineral wool insulation. Due to the Shakespearean era playhouse context to the site, close collaboration took place with the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) to preserve archaeological remains which are of significant historical interest e.g. the finding of the Boar’s Head playhouse dating to 1598. Unite Students has preserved the remains of the playhouse in their original place within the footprint of the development.
