On 4th December EAE Managing Director Ralf Pasker and numerous EAE members and partners attended the Sustainable Construction Talks in Brussels organised by our member Saint-Gobain.

Many thanks for this insightful, inspiring and encouraging evening and especially to their Chairman and CEO Benoit Bazin for highlighting the pivotal role the construction sector plays in solving current challenges and in achieving Europe’s political objectives. Key takeaways:

  • Construction must be recognised as one of the pillars of our economies contributing to around 10% of GDP and providing direct employment to 18 M Europeans and indirectly supports 24 M jobs.
  • Energy efficiency in new built and renovation of millions of leaking homes will lever the transition of our energy systems whilst making them more resiliant, will improve sustainability, will create healthy, comfortable and affordable homes whilst tackling energy poverty.
  • Solutions are available on the market. It is high time to ramp up.
  • The sector is committed to play its part and to exchange with political decisionmakers.
  • The construction sector needs reliable and predictable framework conditions both at European and national level.
